DESCRIPTION:An Annual Celebration of Wetlands Conservation\nRegister Here\nLove Your Wetlands Day is an opportunity to explore UC San Diego’s protected Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve in Mission Bay while also learning about the importance of coastal wetlands, the climate threats they face, and the ways local communities are working to restore and protect them.\nUniquely located in the densely populated urban area, Kendall-Frost Marsh is a valuable laboratory and popular component of the University of California’s Natural Reserve System, a library of ecosystems throughout California representing most of the state’s major habitats. Kendall-Frost Marsh is also the backbone of the newly-approved City park plan with hundreds of acres for restored wetland habitat; come learn more details and how to help.\nActivities will take place throughout the day and are family friendly (no reservations required; first come, first served at the event):\n\nGuided marsh and kayak clean ups\nGuided birding\nBooths from environmental organizations\nEducational presentations by local scientists\nSpeeches by elected officials, and cultural activities with Indigenous leadersFish seining\n\nThe event will run from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm\nPlease note: NO DOGS ALLOWED AT THE EVENT\nMinors can not participate without a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.\nIf you are intersted in volunteering, please fill out the form here by January 30.\nPARKING\nFree parking and free shuttles will be available from Crown Point Park North, 3700 Corona Oriente Road, located about ¾ of a mile from Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve. Shuttle service will run from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Street parking is available but very limited.\n \nThis public acknowledgment serves to honor and respect Indigenous peoples and their land on which our campus resides. UC San Diego was built upon the territory of the Kumeyaay Nation. From time immemorial, the Kumeyaay people have been a part of this land. Today, the Kumeyaay people continue to maintain their political sovereignty and cultural traditions as vital members of the San Diego community.\n
