Program History

Black Tech Link proudly launched the inaugural edition of “Where Business Law & Tech Intersect” in February 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This visionary program was spearheaded by Black Tech Link Founder, Elizabeth Cotton, with a mission to carve out a tangible career pathway for Black law students keen on delving into the dynamic realms of business and technology law. The inaugural event took place at the San Diego Offices of global law firm, Latham & Watkins, setting the stage for an enriching exchange of ideas and experiences.

From seasoned attorneys representing prestigious global law firms to trailblazing self-founding legal practitioners and seasoned in-house counsel, the symposium brought together a diverse array of legal luminaries under one roof. Their collective wisdom and insights provided invaluable guidance and inspiration to aspiring law students, business professionals, and technologists, laying the groundwork for a vibrant community of excellence and achievement.

In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, Black Tech Link swiftly adapted, transitioning the symposium to a virtual format. This transformative move not only ensured the continuity of the program but also extended its reach to a national audience, enabling attorneys from across the country to participate and engage with the symposium’s enriching content. The overwhelming response from attendees underscored the significance of the program, with many expressing a desire for its continuation on an annual basis.

Each subsequent year has seen our panel symposium grow in scope and impact. With a steadfast commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, Black Tech Link has endeavored to expand the event, adding new cities to its roster each year. This expansion not only fosters greater collaboration and networking opportunities for Black attorneys but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring law students nationwide, offering them a platform to connect, learn, and be mentored by seasoned professionals in the field.

As we look to the future, Black Tech Link remains dedicated to nurturing and empowering the next generation of Black legal talent, forging ahead with determination and vision to create a national platform where excellence thrives, and aspirations are realized.
