Black History Month – Year of the Tiger – Kickoff Mixer w/ NSBE & Black MBA Association

On Tuesday February 1, 2022, the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) and Black Tech Link will co-host a networking mixer to kickoff Black History Month. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with San Diego’s brightest managers, executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals.

Recently appointed NBMBAA San Diego Regional Director, Taylor Thornton, stated “The National Black MBA Association Los Angeles Chapter (LABMBA) is a nonprofit, professional, business, membership organization, consisting of highly capable, competent, qualified and skilled Black professionals residing in the Southern California area. Since its inception, the Los Angeles Chapter has woven itself into the fabric of the surrounding communities of the Inland Valley Area, Orange County, and San Diego County. The chapter remains focused on the mission of the organization and on developing new and existing relationships with other African American and minority organizations, local schools of business, major corporations and small businesses.”

The event will also host a variety of local community organizations that are committed to fostering a region of economic well-being and prosperity for San Diego’s Black and minority residents. Partnering organizations at a glance include Multicultural Health Foundation, Creating Coding Careers, Come Through Media, San Diego Urban League Young Professionals, SD Black Professionals, Young Echelon, and Black Entrepreneurs Leaders and Learners.

This event will be an in-person special edition of the NSBE Professional SD “First Tuesdays’ that have been held virtually since the start of the pandemic. Event will showcase a panel entitled “Pivoting Your Career During the Pandemic as a Black Professional” featuring successful thought leaders, innovators, influencers, and career mentors.

NSBE Professionals San Diego Chair, Jayton Harps, stated, “During the pandemic it’s been challenging for Black professionals to navigate their careers in the US economy. Although the unemployment rate is declining overall, Black workers are still facing challenges. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Black workers were the only group that doubled in jobless rates in December 2021 compared to other. We’re excited to hear from Black professionals as they share their experience on how they excelled during a time of uncertainty and beyond.”

Guest Speakers include, Josi Swonetz Corporate, Counsel from Best Buy Health; Jennifer Hairston, Diversity Equity & Inclusion Manager from Illumina; Fred Grier Marketing Manager at Deloitte; and Daniel Quiñones Project Manager at Nasland Engineering. A Recruiter exhibition will be held concurrently with the events of the evening. Vaccination Clinic will be held on site. Food provided by Sabor Piri Piri. Photobooth and Music Included. Attendees are encouraged to bring their resume if seeking employment. Tickets are free for NSBE & NBMBAA members and $25 for non-members.
