Black Tech Link’s 3rd Annual Community Health & STEM Fest Takes Place 

Saturday, September 16, at San Diego College of Continuing Education

America’s Favorite Nurse Alice Benjamin Joins More Than 50 Exhibitors Spanning Career Fair, Fitness Clinic, Youth Activities, Health Screenings, Community Workshops, Food Truck Fair, and Community Organization and Business Expo ​

(San Diego, CA – September 1, 2023) – San Diego-based community organization Black Tech Link is excited to host the 3rd edition of their most-anticipated Annual Community Health & STEM Fest. On Saturday September 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., this family-friendly event will take place in the heart of the Southeast community at the San Diego College of Continuing Education – Educational Cultural Complex located at 4343 Ocean View Blvd, San Diego, CA 92113. With expectations of over 1000 residents, the Health & STEM Fest will offer a variety of programs and activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle and encourage STEM education and learning.

Career Fair 

Job seekers are invited to meet with some of San Diego’s most reputable employers looking to fill roles within healthcare, banking, nursing, construction, manufacturing, IT, engineering, warehouse and more. A few employers include Kaiser Permanente, Pepsi, BD, Qualcomm, SDG&E, Introba, McCarthy Building Companies, County of San Diego, ResMed, California Coast Credit Union, Port of San Diego, and more. Fitness Clinic

During the Fest, San Diego based fitness influencers and instructors will host a drop-in fitness from sessions between 9am – 3pm. Attendees are welcome to join a variety of FREE fitness activities that include yoga, pilates, bootcamps, line dancing, cardio kickboxing, and more. Fitness Clinic also includes a special community walk around the college and local neighborhood led by Circulate San Diego after which they will raffle off a new bike.

Youth Activities

This family-friendly event will cater to youth of all ages, offering multiple activities to spark their curiosity and creativity. Youth will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning and arts and crafts projects that reinforce science learning. Health Screenings and Vaccinations

Albertsons Companies will be onsite providing essential healthcare vaccinations such as TDAP, MMR, Flu, and COVID-19 vaccinations. Community health workers will also provide biometric healthcare screenings such as blood pressure and BMI checks. Additionally, the Asian Pacific Health Foundation of San Diego will also be onsite providing a full range of screenings which include hepatitis B/C, diabetes (HbA1c), cholesterol (LDL, HDL, triglycerides), hypertension, and vision (Snellen, Amsler tests). Complementary toothbrushes and dental hygiene products will be provided by the Southwestern Community College of Dental Hygiene.

Community Workshops & Discussions

The Fest adds a community educational element facilitating multiple discussions surrounding health, science, STEM, and life skills. Attendees can gain valuable insight by listening in on informational panels and workshops. Key panels include Creating More Diversity in Clinical Trials, Mental Health Matters, and Exploring Careers in Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Other Building Trades.

Food Truck Fair

Attendees will have the opportunity to sample world cuisine offered by some of San Diego’s most reputable chefs. Food trucks and food vendors will be onsite providing delicious food including plant-based option menus that cater to vegetarians and vegans.

Community Organization and Small Business Expo

Over 50+ community organizations and small business vendors dedicated to health and wellness will be present. Black Tech Link has partnered with Live Well San Diego and other community based organizations that will share family resources and health services. Black Tech Link has also partnered with Soul Swapmeet to create a festival marketplace for small business vendors that offer a variety of products and services.

This event will be hosted by America’s Favorite Nurse, Alice Benjamin, and Former Pro Football Athlete & Actor Alvin Scioneaux. Live Music will be provided by World Famous Beat Junkie DJ Icy Ice.
